Many of our patients start coming in when they are pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant and wanting to do a detoxification program (for more on detoxification see our section on nutrition). Soon-to-be-moms start feeling so good that soon-to-be-dads start to wonder if Dr Gerken can help them with their aches and pains.
If you think Dr. Gerken is great with a pregnant low back and adapting to all the complications of an increasing baby on tender structures, he is also great with an uncomplicated low back even if it does not have the increasing tummy in front.
Uncomplicated low backs might have disc involvement (bulging discs, ruptured discs, compression fractures or pinched nerves) but it’s more straight forward in that you don’t have huge changes in how you are going to walk over the next 9 months, you don’t have huge changes in how much you have to carry over the next 9 months and most people don’t plan to put on huge amounts of weight over the next 9 months.
Soon-to-be moms and dads are so happy with care that they often bring the new little one in because they recognize how important a properly aligned spine is to development, and want Dr. Gerken to take a look. Often a new little one is brought in for other reasons as well: won’t sleep, colic, stubborn ear infection, odd shaped head. New baby is so much happier the next few days that soon baby is coming in regularly as well.
We offer a variety of adjustment techniques so each member of the family can pick their best care. And although we have many parents that bring in their kids to have the “cranky” bone adjusted and even though they tell us we did a great job adjusting it, we have not actually found a “cranky” bone. We just think it’s hard not to be cranky if you have pain so getting adjusted is often very effective for the “crankies”.
